Sterilization Process

Our Endodontic practice follows procedures recommended by several federal agencies—the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These measures include hand-washing with disinfectant soap, safety glasses, face masks, and the use of new gloves for every patient. Also included is the single use of disposable materials and sterilization or high-level disinfection of reusable instruments and equipment. Every touchable surface has been pre-cleaned, sprayed and wiped down with hospital level disinfectant.

Solaris Sterilization Center

Sterilization1Our sterilization center employs the latest set-up for safeguarding your dental health while in our care. We use Pelton & Crane’s SOLARIS Sterilization system and this Solaris system is designed to be CDC complaint and effectively provides separated zones for to-be cleaned & fully-cleaned sets of instruments.

Hydrim Instrument washer

washerIf it’s not clean, it can’t be sterilized. This powerful large volume automated washer is very important to our sterilization process. This washer virtually eliminates hand scrubbing & its powerful circulation pumps and wash arms remove 99.9% of protein. It is also safer and more efficient than manually cleaning contaminated instruments. The advantages of automated washing systems over traditional manual cleaning are also recognized by the CDC and independent research and testing organizations.

Ultrasonic cleaning

Ultrasonic cleaning is a process that creates high frequency sound-waves. These sound-waves create high energy cavitations. During cavitations millions of tiny bubbles form and then implode, releasing enormous amounts of energy and shock waves. This powerful scouring action reaches into minute crevices which cannot be reached by manual scrubbing. All our instruments are either passed through ultrasonic cleanser or hydrim before they are fed into autoclave for sterilization.

Autoclave:

Most reusable instruments are sterilized by the use of an autoclave, a device that employs steam under pressure to effectively remove all bacteria, viruses, fungi & even spores.
